the little liar (Mitch Albom)

This book follows a few characters, but the one I will focus on (mainly so I do not have spoilers in this review) is Nico.

This book is a historical fiction book and takes place around the time of Nazi Germany. Nico is a Jewish and Greek boy. Nico has been told many times by his grandfather not to lie. In fact, he has never told a lie. Until he was eleven. If you want to learn what the lie was and is, well you will have to read the book.

As I read this book, I did research on the Nazi’s and Hitler himself. This book, while may be “fictional” is spot on how it talks about the horrific events of the time of the Holocaust. There are many things I picked up from this book, here are just a few:

-false hope

-manipulation

-fear AND control

-hate. hate for those who are different than the other.

I plan to continue learning about the Holocaust, continue to listen and read stories of the survivors. I am glad I started with this book by Mitch Albom.

If there is anything I took away from this book it is this:

The Holocaust was not just a bad event; it shows what happens when hate has power.
